There are simple methods which break easily (and provoke the crackers to
do so). There are complex methods which are even more provocative and in
the end no more effective. The only scheme which works uses special
media and is prohibitively expensive.

Depends on how he intends to use the contents. The simplest way is to
either encrypt the contents individually (axcrypt, etc.), create a
secure volume container (TrueCrypt) or the easiest way is to zip the
contents with password protection. The latter is not super secure but
good enough for the casual snooper. The downside to any scheme for media
you are distributing is transmitting the password unless you settle for
public/private key schemes.
