Thinkpad 600e -- Win98se don't recognize my new 40GB hd
Hi, I have an IBM Thinkpad 600e
....and Win98SE don't recognize my new (Samsung) 40GB hd, it only shows 10GB like my last hd. Someone told me I have to update BIOS but I'm trying to create the 1/4 diskette (from IBM website .exe file) and it always shows an error when copy. And if I have any problem with power suply during update my motherboard could damage. Someone else wrote I can use Norton Partition Magic to fix this. What can I do? Regards, J. Someone told me I have to update BIOS With a decent OS you do not have to since it bypasses the BIOS once loaded. Says nothing about partitioning software. For Win98 you will have to. Nonsense. If there is a newer BIOS that can do this. Otherwise you are stuck with 10GB. Utterly clueless. What do you think Disk Drive Overlays are for. but I'm trying to create the 1/4 diskette (from IBM website .exe file) and it always shows an error when copy. Be more specific. And if I have any problem with power suply during update my motherboard could damage. What? You think the PSU is software-controlled? That would be highly unsafe and is not the case. Someone else wrote I can use Norton Partition Magic to fix this. Very, very unlikely. Nope. Only if it too uses the BIOS. You might however make it appear ro be fixed and loose all data as some point. Only in DOS (potentially) and probably just write errors when trying to access above what the BIOS supports. What can I do? The BIOS updata if possible, otherwise live with 10GB or move to Linux or WinXP with SP2. Makes no difference. Arno |
