Making a bootable dvd
.. --------------------------------------
Mike Richter, were you born with "Scam Artist" emblazoned on your face? -------------------------------------- Bob Administrator wrote: Hello smh, When I load the said iso file into PowerIso, the option to add boot in formation is greyed out, so I assume that the iso already has boot information , because it has a boot folder, but then I am not sure if boot info is in that folder, as I don't know what boot info is required. The iso is a windows app/program which I want to install on a free partition, and is about 2.3Gb in size. It has a boot folder included in the iso plus others when I view it in PowerIso. (What Windows are you using?) The greyed out option to add boot info could mean that PowerIso recognized the .iso is a Windows program and thus not making it bootable. Remember that when you boot, there is no Windows OS and Windows program will not run. The 'boot' folder may simply have images, like *.img, and programs to make bootable floppys, like makedisk.exe, with the images. Doubt that the 'boot' folder have a file like 'BootCatalog.cat'. What's the file name of the .iso? Maybe I can get some clue from it what the .iso is all about? What's the name of the Windows program in the .iso? Does the free partition have a drive letter assigned? Can't you specify the drive (partition) for the install location? .. ====================================== Mike Richter's Unadulterated White Lie ====================================== ====================== From: Mike Richter (the Slimiest Lying Friggin SOB) Date: 10/20/02 Subject: 4x CDRW's in 12x Writer? Making a bootable dvd: Update
Hello smh,
Well, I finally managed to boot from the said dvd yesterday. I was swapping dvds in and out of the drive and left one in while I rebooted my OS. As it was booting I saw the message about pressing a key to boot from CD, so I did and then there was another message saying it was going to boot from cd/dvd, and voila! it did! Thanks for your time. Hello smh, When I load the said iso file into PowerIso, the option to add boot in formation is greyed out, so I assume that the iso already has boot information , because it has a boot folder, but then I am not sure if boot info is in that folder, as I don't know what boot info is required. Sorry for the confusion Thanks . -------------------------------------- Mike Richter, were you born with "Scam Artist" emblazoned on your face? -------------------------------------- Bob Administrator wrote: Hello smh, thanks for your replies, but when I use Nero to burn it or even burn it as an iso using PowerIso it doesn't boot. From PowerISO: Q: Can PowerISO make bootable CD? A: Yes. PowerISO can add boot information to an non-bootable image file . ====================================== Mike Richter's Unadulterated White Lie ====================================== ====================== From: Mike Richter (the Slimiest Lying Friggin SOB) Date: 10/20/02 Subject: 4x CDRW's in 12x Writer? Those are called Boot Menu. Once you boot from CD, there is typically another menu. Thanks for your time. You are welcome. Just glad that the dvd's you burned are not total waste. .. ================================================== = Mike Richter - the Slimiest Lying Friggin SOB (UDF) ================================================== = The slimiest lying friggin SOB Mike Richter has been for YEARS blaming the UDF -- to weasel out the bugs of DirectCD: ------------------------------------------ UDF is a fragile format UDF is an unreliable format the format is very fragile and unreliable The format is bad - it loses data The fault is not with the software but with the format There is an inherent problem in UDF Packet writing is the same as UDF.
