2 burners at the same time
I have several burning and ripping programs. I also have 2 burners. Is it
possible to rip a CD on one burner while burning a wav file on the other, using 2 different programs. So far I haven't been able to; the computer reboots when I try it. Thanks, Norm Strong |

CD and DVD burning is a rather fragile undertaking at best. That's one of the few things I do on a computer that always remains a total solo operation. He is much better now but he was always getting fails because he assumed having buffer this and extra that that he could just carry on doing memory intense and drive intense stuff like gaming while burning a disc. There's no reason for your PC to be rebooting though, and this needs to be sorted out. Sounds like a driver problem, so be sure that your IDE controller driver is the default MS driver, not Nvidia or similar 3rd party driver. You should also set Windows to BSOD instead of rebooting, so you can see an error message. Most people who need/want to be doing multiple jobs with optical drives will get a PCI controller card and move hard drive(s) to that, leaving the main IDE open for burners. (PCI cards do not work well for opticals) Some systems will be able to use multiple drives on firewire or USB2, but results can vary widely. |

Both burners are on the same IDE channel; both burners are set for CS (cable select). I have only one hard drive, but it's an SATA drive, so I don't know how to add a parallel device to that channel. HOWEVER, I do have a Promise card that will add 2 more parallel channels to the computer. It's currently sitting in a box, doing nothing. I bought it because I wanted to transfer a bunch of stuff from a parallel HD to my computer. I suppose I could install the Promise card and put one of the burners on that channel. I was surprised when I couldn't use both burners at the same time since I can easily copy a DVD or CD on the fly using one burner to read and the other to write. Norm |

I'm the type of person that isn't completely happy until I know the why. It's probably a personal failing. Norm |

Norm I have just tried burning using Nero 6, 3 disks on 3 different burners at the same time . The data is the same on all 3 . I used my Pioneer A06 on the internal Secondary Master, a Plextor 811 (?) on the Secondary Slave, and using a Sony VRD-VC10 external DVD burner using USB 2.0 It worked flawlessly!!! |

2 burners at the same time
You could very well have a power supply problem. When the extra power
is sucked up with two burners going, it could be enough to cause the power supply to arc (short) and reboot. I have my DVD burner as Master on Secondary IDE and CD Burner as slave on IDE1. I also have two USB 2.0 externals and can burn all 4 simultaneously in Nero with no problem. I have a 450 Watt power supply, not the original 230 watt that came in the computer. wrote: "Dan G" wrote in message . .. I have several burning and ripping programs. I also have 2 burners. A completely different scenario, as you are burning to multiple drives, not burning separate jobs to separate drives. But even in your case, I assure you it did not "work flawlessly", because different drives burn at different speeds or different strategies, so one drive will have to pause while another catches up. Even if they are all burning at 8x, no 2 will be running at the exact same speed. |
