Absolutely not true. Cd's rot over time. I have more than 30 cd's
that have rotted. Manufacturer's have refused to replace them.
"Perfect sound forever" was not a promise, but only false advertisement.

I now make a habit of archiving every cd I buy to hardrives with EAC.

I don't think HD is good archiving media. It will crash.

That's odd...i guess that it depends on where do you store them. I didn't
have any broken CD yet. And i do have many, too.

I store my cd's in the original jewel cases facing up as recommended.
Currently I have just over 1300 cd's, some of which are 20 years old.
What truly annoyed me is that my original Star Wars soundtrack rotted
and was not recoverable by EAC, PlexTools or Cd paranoia.

Very true. However I minimized the risk as much as possible.
The hd's are in shock in mounted sleeves and are only powered
when I rip a cd. I also burn a low jitter duplicate(Yamaha Crw-F1)
after ripping to hd.

Should I keep my slide rule?
Remember when that was the height of geekdom?

My daughter and I were in the attic, and she found a box with my old
Triplett slide rule from electrical engineering classes in college.
She asked, 'What's this thing?" When I showed her how it works, and
how fast she could find a square root, she replied, "Kewl!"

If one of 1300 rotted, that means that CD's are very reliable, wouldn't you
agree?

Strictly by the percentges, I agree. But Sony's promise of "perfect sound
forever"

implies none of my cd's should deterioate. The manufacturer should have
replaced
my rotted cd's. I'm not talking about scratches, or wear and tear. My cd's
literally
rotted from the inside.
