I have a problem with booting my laptop. Sometimes is startes normal and
goes to windows 98SE and somtimes it's get stuck at the compaq screen in the
beginning. But now the strangest he wont start at al.

What i did: I screwed it open en removed the cpu and cleared the cmos. There
is no extra memory inside it is just the standard edition.

What could be the problem with booting?

The fact that it locked up may have been a fixable problem
Taking ou the CPU for whatever reason was not needed
Resetting the bios although probably not needed should not prevent it from
booting
I honestly you did something when you opened the case

What
I will never know

Opening a laptop up for someone who is new at it is very risky
Getting to the CPU is even a little more extensive

What do you mean by will not start
Is their power to the floppy or cdrom
How many connectors did you remove to get to your problem
