Default Memorex Printable CD-Rs

CD Burner is HP9900j (different flavor of a 9900ci) with 2Meg Cache,
Windows XP Pro. 512Ram, 1.8 Ghz

Back in the fall, I bought an Epson Photo printer that has the ability to
print on specially made CD-Rs. BestBuy who I bought the printer from
conviently had Memorex printable CD-Rs. I made a few Mix CDs via MusicMatch
then made nice labels, and I don't recall any major issues. But the other
night, I wanted to make another one.

Clicked on Burn from MusicMatch, burning at 12x, get a Buffer Underrun at
~90%. Curse. Shut down email, other apps that were open, but idle. Burn.
BU at 90%. Curse. Burn to a regular Imation (non printable CD) at 12X,
burns OK. I go out to BB to get more Memorex - only brand of printable CDs.

BU at 90%. Curse. Slow down to 8X. the Burn completes. CHEER! Design
what I want to print on it, print it, toss in a Jewel Case, and listen to it
on my way to work. Around track 12, the sound starts skipping in and out.
By track 14, its completely gone. Curse Curse Curse!.

Today, I bring the Imation CD to work and copy to the Memorex CD via a HP
Burner, similiar looking to mine, but no DVD playing capabilities. Copies
Ok, but have the same Audio problems. You'd think I have tourettes at this
point. A Data CD that I made, APPEARS to be ok, but I didn't go around
opening every file.

At this point, its kind of apparant that the media is flakey But I have made
a few workable CDs since I first got them. Just nothing consistant by any
stretch. Before I got these printable CDs, burning has been a no brainer.
go to the store, buy whatever, toss it in, burn then dig out the sharpie.

Am I missing something? do I need a new burner? Is there another brand of
Printable CD-Rs that people have had better luck than I with?

Thank you in advance.

-Alan

Memorex have had a reputation for selling **** for years. It almost
seems like they go around and buy the stuff (they don't make media,
they buy it and have their brand put on it) that failed the normal
quality checks.

Well thats great to hear! I justified to myself that I needed a new
burner anyways because I had a ****e-load of JPGs and MP3s that i wanted to
back up. and 700Meg at a time would be too much of a pain and probably not
fit in the safetydeposit box with my other worthless stuff. So after
installing, the first thing I did was to burn that playlist from musicmatch
onto a printable CD. And ya know what? besides being MUCH faster, It's
sounding good. Now the glass half empty person inside me is questioning
after reading your post - Did I find the one good CD in the lot, or was it
the drive??

Time will tell. I will try to remember to update this in awhile for
properity purposes. It is important to note that I did NOT get another HP
drive.
