Shrink wrapped discs and dust
Hi,
Many vendors sell CDRs shrink wrapped in bulk lots. I'm concerned about the potential for dust: a) on the surface of the disc that will need cleaning off and b) dust getting inside the drive and shortening it's life. Am I just being anally paranoid? Si. |

Just buy some CD's on a spindle with a cover and reuse it to hold your cheap bulk CD's. -- I was actually concerned that shrink wrapped discs may already have collected a considerable amount of dust during their shelf life.... In article ,
says... I was actually concerned that shrink wrapped discs may already have collected a considerable amount of dust during their shelf life.... Properly sealed, they should stay clean. If they only shrink the outside, some dust could get in the centers, but probably not a big deal, easpecially if you blow it out before removing any CD's. Basically, stacked CD's are so flat and smooth that there is no room for dust to get between them. I've sometimes had problems getting them apart due to tight static or other attraction between them! The only dust would be in any gaps, such as near the centers of the CD. -- If there is a no_junk in my address, please REMOVE it before replying! Si. Every time I insert a disc into my drive I hold it at an oblique angle to the lamp next to my computer and blow off any dust with a squirt of compressed air. Needless to say, I buy these every time OfficeMax offers them free after rebate. Brendan -- |
