64-bit Vi$ta driver damaged my Asus 7600GT?

The card was damag ed while I was playing BF2. It no longer could output
DVI signal. I need to use a DVI-VGA converter to see a boot screen.

In the BIOS boot screen, there are stripes of white on the monitor.

BIOS screen aren't handled by Vista driver (or any Windows) it is
completely within hardware. So it is quite likely your video card is
a lemon. First I'd check the fan to make sure it isn't clogged to the
point of killing the fan and letting the card fry. Also check the
PCIe power connector, loose connector or under-rated power supply can
degrade the performance and make it look like hardware malfunction.

If it's not the power supply and power cable, and your card is under
warranty and it wasn't killed by dust buildup, get it RMA'ed

1. Fan is turning, but I don't know how ot clean the dust.
2. The power supply is an Antec 550W 12V. So it should be ok.

Funny thing is the same problem didn't happen when I was playing
America's Army. It got damaged when I was playing BF2, using
custom resolution 1680x1050.

I am going to Asus distributor tomorrow with the VGA card, warranty
card, and invoice.

The card just chose that particular instant to go south. The game being
played and resolution are just a coincidence. Like you say, RMA the card.

This is most likely the case, your card just happened to go tits up at
the time.

There is a spot chance you can revive a dead DVI port by powering down,
unseating the card, booting up with another card or DVI port, then
re-seating the original (an oddball method once recommended to me by
Viewsonic support). Somehow DVI retains some kind of information about
the display device on the card itself and can regain a signal. But I
doubt it in this case. It's worth a shot if you've got time before
sending the RMA.

While waiting for my 7600GT to be repaired, I bought a Asus 8600GT.

The card got replaced by the distributor. Got another 7600GT today.

Yes... from the 3DMark2006 scores.

For about the same money, you could get 9600GT which has twice as much
of performance, ot 8800GS which has approximately three times as much
of performance. They are promised to be released on 14 Feb.

I would be expecting 9600GT. Thanks for the advices.
