Default Windows 7 and Virtual XP

Has anyone here tried running virtual xp in windows 7? Just
wondering how well it works and how easy it is to install the xp
drivers.

I use it, but not often. *I have an old UMAX scanner (USB) that was a
freebie with a Dimension 4100 running Win 2000 that was purchased in the
last century. There are no drivers for Win 7 that I could find. *It has
become something of a challenge to see how long I can keep it going. So
far, it works great with virtual XP, albeit a tad sluggish.

I have tried running Nero Express on virt. XP, but there seems to be a
problem accessing the DVD drive. Probably the SATA interface, but
haven't looked into it in depth.

Frank

Interesting two comments with very different experiences...Have you
tried running products like Microsoft Office or Adobe Acrobat?

Have you considered a dual boot or vmware? I've run vmware using win
7 or xp inside the other with no problem.

Not sure what Nero Express gives you that CDBurnerXP and ImgBurn do
not. I have used both of them for just about every DVD or CD burning
task. Ah! Now I recall! Neither of them overburns the capacity of a
CD, which Nero Express does. With some of the Linux distros
oveflowing with software, their ISO files exceed the capacity of the
allegedly 80-minute CD-Rs I have. Unless you need to overburn, you
don't need Nero Express... Ben Myers

Frank,
Try defining the DVD drive as a SCSI device intead of IDE. I had the
same problem when I tried to use Nero Express v7 on a Windows XP Pro
guest OS under VMware. Making the drive SCSI fixed the problem.

I prefer Nero Express 6 over ImgBurn for burning avi files as data files
to unformatted RW DVD disks. Nero has a quick-format feature which
ImgBurn lacks.

Thanks for the suggestion...I was wondering if it was practical or
possible to run older software like earlier versions of Microsoft
Office and Adobe Acrobat with vitural XP under windows 7. Larry
