Default The $100 Upgrade

Definitely go for the video. SWG is a fairly graphically intense game. I
don't think you will see as much improvement in performance, if you get the
cpu/memory. Although, I could be wrong. Kinda depends on how much higher
bus speeds (cpu and memory) you're talking about with the new cpu/memory.

I've got a P4 2.4C with 512 DDR400 and a Radeon 9700 (overclocked to pro)
and get about 30 fps in SWG consistently. Of course, server and ISP
performance affect it, as well.

Looking for a little advice. I've got $100 to spend (all the wife will

let
me have) and need to decide on the most bang for my buck. I've recently
picked up Star Wars Galaxies and my frame rate is pretty low in some

spots.
So that said, here are my system specs and my considerations:

Duron 1300
ECS K7S5A
512 PC133
GF2 TI
SB Live Value
40GB Maxtor 7200 RPM
Win XP

I'm considering:

1. New vid card, I can grab a GF4 Ti4200 64Mb for about $85
2. Processor and memory, XP 1800+ and 512 DDR ram for about $100

Opinions on which of these will give the most bang for the dollar? Other
suggestions also appreciated.

I would go for the processor w/o the DDR memory your the K7S5A. The GF4
will look marvelous but I'm thinking TB 1800 or better a TB 1700 will give
you a better bang. That should leave about $50 towards a GF3 Ti200 or
Ti500, GF4-Ti4200 or FX-5200 that might be on Ebay or somewhere.
After all SWG is only 50% of your time. Of course you can get the cpu + DDR
and then flash Honey or Cheepo bios and OC the K7S5A to XP2200 speeds.

I would get the best CPU I could afford. Or maybe the XP 2000 and 256
memory. You could get the faster processor and save up to get the video
card.
