Rule of thumb #1: If Windows does something unexpected and you have not the time, knowledge, or inclination to figure out what's really wrong... reboot the computer. 90% of the time the symptom will go away. If you had done that your issue would have been solved in less time than it took you to ask the question in the first place. I think your problem was a display issue. The file was actually gone, but the desktop didn't update itself to reflect that. Similar things happen to me sometimes with dialog boxes and pop-up balloon notices - the boxes linger even though the notice is actually gone. Sometimes it obscures other active things on the screen. Sometimes shifting the focus to other windows make it disappear. Other times I have to log out and back in or reboot to make it go away. Wrong. I have an icon that recurs at times & cannot be deleted nor was there an item in the properties for deletion. Rebooting can get rid of the icon but it gets resurrected again sometime later, could be many days. The offending icon is the icon for "homegroup"; no reason for it to appear at any time since I didn't touch the item on the control panel. I have given up & just leave it there as an eyesore; cannot even move the homegroup icon to another location. What happens if you delete (or rename to be safe), in the appropriate windows folder the icon it corresponds to? |

I stand by everything I said. I have an icon that recurs at times & cannot be deleted nor was there an item in the properties for deletion.
