Default Radeon 9200?

Brooks put me in my place by writing

I'm looking for a decent graphics card that will play most games and
last me at least 1 year without having to be upgraded. But I dont
wanna spend more than $130 dollars. I read alot about the ATI Radeon
9200 128mb 8x. and if I get it by Sapphire, I could get it at like
$75. Would this card last me a year and not give me a hard time?
Should I buy the "Built by ATI" or will the Sapphire model work?

Sapphire cards are an extremely low end piece of equipment. I have had
lotsa trouble with those, mainly driver issues. If you are wanting an
ATI chipset, you are better off shelling out a bit of extra cash and
getting a "Built by ATI". Gigabyte uses ATI chipsets as well, but I have
seen fewer and fewer of their cards on the market, but they are still
out there. They are fairly hardy, and should last you as long as you
need them to.

Sure about that? I never had a moments trouble with my 9000 from Sapphire,
and always used the standard Built by ATI drivers without a problem. I find
it hard to believe that Sapphire would deviate too much from the standard
ATI design, particularly as Sapphire used to make alot of the ATI cards
until they started licencing out Radeon chipsets.

In my opinion, if you're looking for a cheap card that will get you by for
all but the most demanding 3d apps, I'm sure a Sapphire will do you well.
Keep an eye out for Gigacube, allegedly a subsidiary of Gigabyte who
specialise in cheap low-end Radeons. My 64Mb 9200 is silent, stable and fast
enough in all my games.

Hmmm, the sapphire cards are fine. They use the same drivers as the "built
by ATI" card.

Sapphire 8500LE here and runs just super. No issues with drivers and I
have been using the catalyst ones from the ati site. Brother has a
9200 and has had no driver problems....

Yeah, my typing fingers got in gear before my brain. I have had alot of
replies to this one... the cards I personally was having trouble with
were the 7000, 7500's, I was pulling my hair out. This was before they
(ATI) perfected the Catalyst.
So if you have some salt and pepper to go with my foot, I would like it.
It is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Sorry all if I ruffled some
feathers...

aquired regarding Sapphire cards.

Don't know about the Sapphire, but recently installed an Xtacy (by
Visiontek)9200 and it works well. Price with rebate 79.50 US.
