Default DVD burner for laptop

I have a Compaq Presario 2232US and would like to replace the DVDROM/CDRW
drive with a DVD writer. Newegg.com has an AOpen Slim DVD Burner and in one
of the reviews the person said they had used it in a Presario R3000. Anyone
know if this burner would work in my Compaq 2232US laptop?

If it will fit in the slot and has the correct connections on the
back, it should work. The BIOS sees CD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD-ROM drives
as equivalent devices. You should search for that model with Google
to see if any reference is made to your laptop. You could also
search for your current drive to see whether it is compatible with
the Presario R3000. Hewlett-Packard has a Parts catalog on its
website which could help.

I did a quick check on the DVDROM/CDRW drive which comes with the
Presario 2232US (Part No. 371782-001) and it did not list the
Presario R3000 among the compatible models. One would think that a
DVDRW drive would have the same compatibility listings.
