Default bent pins

Hi guys
Due to my clumsiness/haste I have bent 2 pins on the mobo connector of the
cd writer. Any hints or tips to resolve this?
It is a very old TINY pc so no big deal if it cant be repaired.

Unplug the tower, press the power button for about 10 secs to dissipate
power in the system board. Carefully straighten the pins using a pair of
hobby needlenose pliers.

Gently reconnect the IDE ribbon/data cable a couple of times to assure full
straightening and a good/proper cable fit.

I assume this is an IDE/PATA cd writer and connector.

Yes
Thanks for that advice,
I probably would have gone ahead tried to straighten them but without the
power cut.!!

It's no big deal unless the affected pins are smashed perfectly flat. That
can be a bit dicey. Good luck.

Sometimes needlenose pliers are not needley enough to reach the bent pins
without bending some others. I often use a very small flat-bladed screwdriver
for pin straightening jobs. After disconnecting the power (and removing a
laptop computer battery!) of course... Ben Myers

There is one very nifty tool, if one can get it. It is the cannula,
or metal tube, from a spinal tap needle set. The tubes are stainless
steel and strong. Most pins would insert reasonable into the opening.
Apply gentle pressure to straighten the pin.

An alternative would be an one of the old-fashioned, metal ballpoint
pen refills, although the bore is somewhat larger than that of the
spinal needle cannula.

All the while musing over the movie "This is Spinal Tap", no doubt. I
have to get myself a couple of cannulas... Ben Myers
