Default laser Printer Toner refill

Folks:

I have a Panasonic KX-P7100 Laser printer. Currently my toner cartridge is
empty, that is, the ink is all done. TigerDirect is telling me that I
should buy a new toner for $80 S&H included.

Is it possible (and if so how) to just purchase REFILL ink in a bottle then
just transfer this ink to the toner of my Panasonic KX-P7100 Laser printer.
Thanks in advance for the scoop.

Thanks,
John.

I just did a Google search on this printer and Tiger Direct is selling it
for $99. Why would you pay $80 for a refill? Maybe I didn't read the add
thoroughly. Check it out yourself. Make sure you get the whole URL below.

MrB

You are correct about the cost of the printer.
Do you know of some way that I can buy ink and just refill the toner - the
original question?

Thanks,
John.

There shouldn't be anything special about the toner. If your present
cartridge can be opened, you can just dump some in until the fuser
gets dirty enough that you have to replace the whole cartridge to
retain print quality. So, just search for a laser printer toner
refill and ignore what printer it's for.

On the other hand, toner is a black powder and "can" be a PITA and
messy if the cartridge design doesn't easily yield itself to
refilling, you might be as well off just buying the whole cartridge
but from someplace other than Tiger Direct, like the following link or
do a Google search for same cartridge part number.

You do have to be careful when getting bulk toner, as there are different
grades or fineness of the toner, and toner that is too fine will leak out
over everything and toner that is too thick will not feed out the
container and will not print. Also, copier toner is very different than
laser toner.

That said, you can get the bulk toner for just about any printer, just
make sure it is appropriate type for that printer.

I got a decent laser toner cartridge for my HP 4A for about $35. There are
discount re-manufacture cartridges for just about every laser printer made.Do a
Google search.

My info on 3rd party toner is dated, so take it with a grain of salt
(toner). I was a Xerox rep for years and fought the results from people
buying 3rd party toner. The complaints ranged from odor to poor copy
quality. I have seen the same problems with 3rd party deskjet inks. I steer
clear and pay the premium for the manufacturers ink. I have a personal
friend who refills toner cartrides for a living and he would kill me for
writing this. I just wouldn't do it.

In principle, you're right, that there are differences in inks, but
there are some refill places that make a point to adhere to the same
specs as the manufacturer; they don't sell a one-type-fits-all ink. At
least they claim that; of course I have no way of proving that they're
actually different inks, but at least they acknowledge that there's a
difference?! You might want to try one of them; new cartridges are
highway robbery.

Sorry, hadn't checked the ng for awhile. First off, my comment was
with respect to the last post which said he'd seen the same problems
with 3rd party deskjet inks. That's what I've been using, without
problem. The company also sells toner, though, and does so with
different formulations for different printers. They're at:

Good luck!
