HP DVD 300i, Burned great for awhile, now making coasters. Thought the drive
was bad, replaced with a Samsung. Same result. I uninstalled Roxio, and
installed Nero, same thing. Now I've clean installed XP and Nero, same
thing. What next??

Check that the drive is in DMA mode: Control Panel, Device Manager, IDE
Controller/Channel Properties, Advanced Settings tab.

Also post complete Nero error log (sans license key).

With no information other than what you provide, the answer can only be
"fix it".

CD or DVD?
What errors are reported - if any?
Does the burn complete?
If the burn completes, does the disc play anywhere?
If the burn completes, what are test results?
CD-DA, data or others?
What media tried?
What speeds tried?
TAO, DAO or other?

and those are for starters.

Mike

Thanks all! I decided to pull all cables, clean all connections, replace
with new cables. So far, seems to burn great. I didn't get any type error
message, other than, around 90 - 99% into process cd kicks out, says "burn
failed", making a coaster. Haven't seen this since early days of burning.
Nero 6.6 usually detects bad copy, gives error, kicks cd out before burning,
eliminating coasters, not this time. Thanks again for all responses!

Think you just about touched on everything.

How about touching on updating whether the FAQ has corrected the common
mistake?

Yes, the FAQ says that a Mixed Mode disc
is written in a single session.

I don't doubt it...but it conflicts with

other information I have gleaned from
