Default Will a 512mb pc3200 stick work in a Dimension 2400?

It's a 2.4g cely. It came with a 128mb pc2100 stick. I was planning on
buying a pc3200 stick that's on rebate. Will this work? Thanks.

Maybe, maybe not. If it is to work, it needs to be PC3200 CL-3, not more
aggressively timed RAM.

I'm pretty sure it's 2.5. Would it matter if I take out the pc2100 stick?

Why CL3 rather than 2.5. The 2400 uses 2.5 memory.

I think it would work fine.

Probably will, but the OP needs to know that it will run at only 266mhz and
not the spec'd 400mhz due to the FSB speed of the Celeron.

PC2700 at 2.5 will work. PC3200 at 2.5 or 2 will likely not.

Explain the physics to me. The PC3200 will step down to PC2100.

It might, but I've also seen Dell 2400 and 3000 systems simply refuse to
boot with PC3200 RAM, particularly if the cache latency is too aggressive.

PC2700 at 2.5 works just fine. PC3200 at 2.5 will almost surely not.

It probably has less to do with the actual speed and more to do with the
relatively limited Dell BIOS on these boards.
