Default Drivers and Printers

Should the Microsoft Document Driver be able to print to the Lexmark
Z2300 series of printers?

Is there a difference between Microsoft's Universal Printer Driver and
Vista's Generic/Text only driver. I assume that the UPD is available
under Vista (32bit).

Thanks

species8350,
Have you gone to the Lexmark website? There is a driver for the Z2300 for Vista
32bit, on that site. A generic driver "might" work, but you might not have all
the functions that the printer offers. There also may be additional software
that needs to be downloaded to get the printer working as desired.

Thanks for responding.

I am looking for an alternative driver.

Best wishes.

Ps. Feel free to address the other part of the question (if you want
to)

Microsoft Universal Printer Driver (Unidrv)

unidrv is used by many manufactures for PCL devices. *The Generic Text
Only driver also uses this as the core driver.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response.

I installed the Generic Driver supplied with Vista. I tried to print a
page, but got no response from the printer. I also tried printing a
text only page, again no response.

Any suggestions as to how to make it print? The printer is connected
via a USB. The driver is ported to a USB

Thanks

I have to admit I have not fully been following this thread. Can you
explain just what you are attempting to accomplish?

I take it you have a Lexmark Z2300 inkjet printer which you wish to run
on a Vista OS PC? Is there some reason you don;t want to use a Lexmark
driver for your printer?

Is there no Vista driver being offered on line for this printer by
Lexmark? No "in box" driver?

Please provide a bit more info.

I don;t know of any inkjet printers that support PCL. Mostly it is used
for laser printers.

Most HP inkjets (other than the few PPA models) support PCL. The
consumer version such as the Deskjet and Photosmart models typically
support PCL3e, while the Business inkjet models typically support PCL5.
