Default How printers Work

I was just wondering how printers work.

A page to be printed will have a language associated with it.

The printr will support say pcl whcich seems common to inkjects.

When the file is sent to the prointer does pcl simple wrap the file
sent by the software package? If not, how does this work.

Also, if inkjets generally support pcl, then why won't any printer
driver operate any inkjet printer.

Thanks for the tute (hopefully)
