SBLive driver install program quits suddenly
I am trying to install the Live driver for Win98SE. I have the proper
download from Creative. When I run it, it gives me the "Sound Blaster Drivers Update (Win9x) Setup is preparing the InstallShield Wizard..." progress bar; then, when it reaches 100%........ nothing. The installer just quits without a trace. Any wisdom to give on this? Tim |

Any wisdom to give on this? Not much! Sorry. You could try going into the device manager and deleting the soundcard listed there (probably in the form of an unknown device with a yellow exclamation mark symbol next to it), then rebooting your box (and cancelling the request to install drivers for the soundcard when it is re-detected), then cleaning out your windows temporary files folder once it's booted back up. Then you run the installer again and see if it works any better. OR, you could upgrade to windows xp instead which is far superior to win98 and overall simply works better in pretty much every way there is. |

I'm also wondering if I'm missing some other system driver, since I'm also experiencing the exact same symptom (i.e. installer quits suddenly) with the modem driver. Both are PCI cards, so.....? (It's days like this when I wish I'd paid more attention in my computer architecture class) OR, you could upgrade to windows xp instead which is far superior to win98 and overall simply works better in pretty much every way there is. Actually, this is a dual-boot machine. I'm setting up a Win98 partition so we can continue to play some of our old DOS games. The XP side is working fine! Tim |
