I have never said that, but if it can use two monitors, then I can just plug
my monitor into either card.

Where in your URL does it say anything about using the monitors
separately? I can't see it.

This seems to differ from your answer, or did I read it wrong?

program? Ie the 3400 for cad and the 7800 for UT2004 ? "

No.

quote:-"In this type of setting the cards don't have to be identical (as
they won't be connected to each other) and they don't even have to be from
the same graphics chipset manufacturer! NVIDIA-based cards can be used in
conjunction with ATI-based cards, but each card's own multi-monitor
management software will be disabled; instead, Windows XP's own
multi-monitor configuration options need to be used.

This differs from your statement, I am not saying you are wrong, but you are
saying that they are wrong.

You read it wrong. Any configuration of two video cards requires that
they have identical GPUs. You cannot successfully use a Quadro FX3400 and
a 7800GTX in the two PCI-E slots.

i don't think it works with PCI E cards. I say this because PCI-E SLI boards
seperate their bandwidth between the two ports. Normally a PCI E port has 16
bus lanes, in SLI 16/2=8 each. a fx 3400, not being a SLI card i don't think
will work. However if you use a PCI card i'm pretty sure you can get it to
work then.

I have just brought a system consisting of:-

Can this be made to go faster?

I will get this next week, but I would like to know if it can be improved.

YES :

for sistem disk:
http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/...spx?i=2431&p=5
+4x1GB of cheapest DDR ...
or Samsung 8GB Solid state Flash IDE drive ... (500€)

for data disk:
2xWD Raptors , Raid0 config.
The remaining yours HD for system & data back up & archive ..

this would speed up big time any newer PC, more than dualcore A64 ..
