Tyan Radeon new card fault
Just out of interest, I just got a Tyan Tacheon G9600 Pro but I'm getting
some not so nice random pixelated glitches on my previously fine TFT screen (works fine with my TNT2 agp card). Shame as otherwise it seems to work just except this glitches. The FAN is working at the normal speed so its not overheating according to the monitoring either. I Guess it MUST be hardware. I updated my AGP SIS chipset to latest, it seemed as if this made a difference but i booted up my pc again and seem to getting the problem again. (not sure if quite as bad as first time round). Its going for return anyway but just wondered if anyone else has a similar experience. |

Interesting thanks for your comment.
Out of interest there is the:- Gainward Geforce4 Powerpack Ultra750-8x AGP 64MB DDR Ti4800 SE Chipset With Tv-out which at £59.95 ex vat is at least £40 cheaper than my board. Although I am not sure if it supports 4x AGP of my board. What do you think in comparison to the Radeon9600? (memory oc limitations are a bit of a let down) Mind you I have filled out my RMA form as an exchange basis, so Im not sure if I can just change my mind but I could certainly try! Its a good supplier so they may be accomodating. get a geforce4 ti4200 for $75 (msi) and clock it to 4600 levels, beats an FX 5600... the FX line sucks dick |

not your card but another ti4800se...
http://www.vr-zone.com/reviews/Tripl...00SE/page5.htm looks like the overclocked ti4200 performs a hair better than the stock ti4800se, you can get a fair bit of OC mileage from the card... IMO, you'll be happy with the card, but some say 64MB of memory is too little, i personally dont think so...if you were playing at 1600x1200 32 bit it would but my 18" LCD doesnt go 1600x1200 so it isnt needed. I wonder if Ti4200 offers features like the h/w monitoring of the
radeon 9600 (and its nice to be able to control fan speed etc)? Mind you is there any point to this. Also the gpu clock differences are quite different - 250Mhz vs 400Mhz. Then there is the difference in memory with 64 vs 128 (not sure about qualities or speed differences here but both 128 bit DDR I think) of the ti vs the radeon 9600 pro. The ti4200 650/8x tv out package I was looking at for £50 does not offer much as a bundle, just the s-video out, mind you all the other cables I saw in the Tyan Radeon package might not get used as I wasnt intending to do much with video out etc!! (both come with WinDVD too). There must be SOME advantage to shelling out what I have which is almost double the cost of a ti4200 64Mb ?! I saw one site though, as you say - shows FX figures are awful but in comparison the TI indicated in tests to be quicker than the Radeon!! It certainly seems popular card amonst those in the know, like overclockers. I think its possible there is some considerable saving to be made here if I decided to have that on return basis instead. If i was to let them return the same card, and that proved faulty again I will definitely opt to the Gainward Ti. SURELY someone must be able to argue some reason why its worth spending the money on the radeon and that there is some benefit to it?? Tony |
