Eyes get used to certain refresh rate ?

Hi everybody,

For more than 6 years I used a CRT montior with 60hz refresh rate and never
felt disturbed by the flickering, but now after using a samsung 757DFX 17"
set to 1152x864@ 100hz for about a year I can't sit behind a 60hz monitor
for more than 10 minutes or I get headache, even flickering at 85hz does
bother me! does this mean my eyes are used to 100hz refresh rate?
and my second question, does using "max refresh rate" instead of
"recommended refresh rate" (both specified by the manufacturer) have
noticable effect on the life and stability of the monitor?
the 100hz I'm using on my monitor is the 'maximum' and the 'recommended' is
85hz, I've not noticed any problem in the past 12 months and the image has
great sharpness and brightness, I'm going to switch to a 22" and need to
know the answer to above questions to be able to choose the best which is
appropriate for me in the options that I have.

framerates since I got a Voodoo 1 back in the day and got seriously
into PC gaming. Unfortunately it makes it uncomfortable for me when I
go to a movie theatre these days as the low frame rate makes my eyes
ache during panning shots.

Sure. When Americans visit West European countries using the PAL television standard they really notice the
screen flicker unlike Europeans. It's only 50Hz. But then Europeans notice the low resolution of NTSC and the
hepatitis looking skin tones of the people on TV.

I had the same problem, it got where I couldn't even handle
100hz on mine. I solved mine by getting a LCD and now I
don't get any headaches and my eyes don't suffer anymore
like it did on the CRT. LCD is at 60hz but no flickering.
LCD are fine at 60hz but not for a CRT.
