Default Use only USB drive? Boot from firewire?

Assuming that my mainboard supports booting from a USB device, is there any
reason that I couldn't install Windows XP or Linux on a PC who's only drive
is a USB 2.0 drive?

....and are there any mainboards out there that support booting from
firewire?
