old Packard Bell 486 - Windows 3.1 question for those who still remember how to use it
I dug out my very old Packard Bell 486 to play a few games.
Anyhow, I have the original restoration CDrom. So I restored the system to factory original. I have two questions, both for Windows 3.11 I got rid of the packard bell navigator, it was annoying and loaded everytime I started Windows 3.11 But unlike my other 486 running Windows 3.11, instead of Windows going straight to the program manager, now Program Manager is minimized, and I have to double click on the Program Manager icon to maximize it. And this is always when I restart windows, I have to do this. My question: How do I make Windows go directly to program manager like it does on my other 486. I hope there are atleast a few 486 dinosaurs out there that still know a thing or two about Windows 3.11 -- --------------------------------- --- -- - Posted with NewsLeecher v3.7 Final Web @ http://www.newsleecher.com/?usenet ------------------- ----- ---- -- - |

I sure don't remember, but my guess is that the different behaviors are caused
by differences in win.ini or system.ini... Ben Myers On Sat, 06 Sep 2008 07:41:52 -0500, s18 ) wrote: I dug out my very old Packard Bell 486 to play a few games. old Packard Bell 486 - Windows 3.1 question for those who still remember how to use it
Hello!
Open Win 3.1, Program Manager, select Options Make sure that "Save settings on Exit" is checked. Make sure that PM is full size when closing Windows. Let me know if that fixes it. I vaguely remember *something* else that fixes this problem also, but it hasn't surfaced yet. bobwatts "s18" wrote in message ... I dug out my very old Packard Bell 486 to play a few games. On a fresh install, it will be the first item to load. On the selections at the top right, choose "preferences". The next window will give you a choice of how you want to start - windows or navigator. Click on windows and the next time you bootup, you will go directly to windows. Navigator will be running as minimized, so click on it and select "close". Save the settings for the next bootup. Poster 60 |
