Default What firmware to use for LG-GSA 4082B ?

I'm planning to update the firmware in my LG-GSA 4082B, since I don't seem
to be able to burn to many new type of DVD-R 8x. The firmware I have now is
version a207. Looking at LG's support site the latest version they have
availble is a208, but doing a web site I noticed that there's also a version
a209. Does anyone know if this version a209 is an official release or is it
by some third party? Which version would I be best using? Thanks in
advance.

There's very little modding going on for LG drives. What little there
is amounts to just disabling the region lock. The modded firmwares
that exist for LG share the same numbering system as the official
firmwares but with some sort of suffix to designated it as region
free.

A209 is an official release. The trouble with LG and most hardware
manufacturer sites seems to be that they don't all sync their updates
among their various international sites. It was released in mid 2005
on their Japan site (which seems to get a lot of their new firmwares
first). I don't know if it ever appeared on their other international
sites. People have reported it working on drives sold in other
countries though.

Keep in mind that the drive's fairly old, and so is that last
firmware, so even after the update, it still might not support all the
media you want to use.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, I've just installed the a209 version and I can now
burn to the disks I couldn't use before, although only at 4x, but that's
better than not at all.

I'll probably get around to upgrading to a new drive soon since they seem to
be cheap as anything now.

Cheers. :-)
