Default my argosy external hard disk drive is not recognised by win

Hello,

Yesterday, I installed my external 3.5" hard disk drive,

my model is HD36OU-P usb 2.0

yesterday it worked correctly, creating a new unit G: I stored 10 Gb,
then I formated my computer,

and now the hard disk is not recognised, I created 2 partitions C y D,
and as the hard disk was not switched on it showed other space, of 150
Gb, the gigas my external hard disk drive has, and it sayd,
"space no partitioned", I didnīt touch this space, and I
left as it was,

so when I click in my computer I have just the two partitions C and D,
the letter for my external disk doesnīt show

maybe could be that I have formated my other two units in nfts and not
in fat32? or that I havenīt got the device driver for USB host
controller installed.......in the prospect it says I have to have it
installed, but I donīt know how to find out this.....

this is a screenshoot of the disk management:

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...ordediscos.jpg

is the disk 1, it says path not assigned,

in properties it says that works correctly and in type of partition
says mbr "master register"

I need to recover my data in the disk, Iīve switched off the hard disk
a couple of times, maybe I delete all the data if I do this?

besides in the manual says that there is no need to install drivers in
windows xp, but I have installed anyway , and in the program files
folder, I donīt see other file when I install it but one named
generic, that just contains icons, and yes, in add or remove
programs I have usb 2.0 card reader

the brand is argosy, and the model is HD350U-P, 3,5" usb 2.0, y
mi SO es windows xp pro

could you give me some help about what can I do?

thank you in advance, and greetins......

Should make no diference for this porblem.

or that I havenīt got the device driver for USB host

Well, it looks like it does not see the external disk at all.
Have you checked the cabeling?

in properties it says that works correctly and in type of partition
says mbr "master register"

If you switched it off before removing it savely with the icon for
this purpose in the bottom left icon list on the toolbar, then you
may have done arbitrary damage. Still, it should see the disk
drive, if maybe not the partitions.

I think you should check the cabeling. Then you should check
the driver. Also you may need to unplug and replug the xternal
drive in some cases for it to be seen. Try that. You need
to get XP to see the disk.

As long as XP does not see the drive at all, it likely is
not a problem with the data on the external disk, but something
else.

Because XP thinks it hasnt been partitioned for some reason.

Nope.

Did you do an update since you reinstalled XP ?

Should be fine since you werent writing to it at the time.

besides in the manual says that there is
no need to install drivers in windows xp,

You said the exact opposite higher up.

but I have installed anyway , and in the program files folder,
I donīt see other file when I install it but one named generic,

Which SP of XP ? You do need to add USB2 support to XP after a clean
install. Maybe thats the reason it cant see the partitions on the drive.

Hello again and thanks for the help

Which one?

my external disk, the disk of the computer are recognized as usual

Huh? I don't understand what you are saying. Did you create C/D

while
the external disk was off? Did you then swtch the erxternal disk

on?

I donīt remember well, but I think it was switched on while I was
formating, and then I switched off.

Well, it looks like it does not see the external disk at all.
Have you checked the cabeling?

yes, the cabeling is ok

If you switched it off before removing it savely with the icon for
this purpose in the bottom left icon list on the toolbar, then you
may have done arbitrary damage. Still, it should see the disk
drive, if maybe not the partitions.

donīt know, but one of the characteristics says "plug & play
and hot insertion/removal capability"

Because XP thinks it hasnt been partitioned for some reason.

when I first installed I didnīt partitioned the disk, because it was
recognised automatically, the letter G showed without me doing
anything else that plug the external disk after installing the drive,
should have I partitioned the disk? but now if I do a partition to the
disk, I guess all the data will dissapear

Did you do an update since you reinstalled XP ?

yes, I updated my xp

You said the exact opposite higher up.

I said that? aranoid: sorry, Iīm a bit nervious, Iīm stuck right
now without being able to do anything till this is solved

in the manual says that under xp, you just have to insert the
interface cable into computer and the hard disk drive will be
recognized automatically

A card reader is something completely different to an external hard

drive.

yes, I installed just in case it was necessary, in the instructions of
the cd, it said that just in windows 98 had to install the drive, the
other windows has to install the card reader only.......so just in
case, I have tried to install it without the drive of the cd also,
but wasnīt recognized either, however in the disk management the path
is not assigned but this disk is showing

Which SP of XP ? You do need to add USB2 support to XP after a

clean
install. Maybe thats the reason it cant see the partitions on the

drive.

how can I do this? I have updated my xp with SP2, in driver manager I
have the mass storage device yet, and in add and remove programs I
have too the usb 2.00 card reader,

thanks again and greetins

Its more complicated than that. You do need to use that icon
before removing so XP can write what is pending to the drive.

You appear to be saying the exact opposite in the para of yours just above.

yes, I updated my xp

Before you plugged the external drive in again ?

It wont get solved if you dont say clearly what you did.

in the manual says that under xp, you just have to insert the
interface cable into computer and the hard disk drive will be
recognized automatically

Its more complicated than that with USB2 support, the original
XP didnt have full USB2 support and it needs to be updated to
have full USB2 support unless you are using an XP CD which
already has SP2 included.

but I have installed anyway , and in the program files folder,
I don?t see other file when I install it but one named generic,
that just contains icons, and yes, in add or remove

yes, I installed just in case it was necessary,

That may have caused the problem with the system
getting confused about drive letters when you did that.

in the instructions of the cd, it said that just in windows 98 had to
install the drive, the other windows has to install the card reader only.......
so just in case, I have tried to install it without the drive of the cd also,
but wasnīt recognized either, however in the disk management the
path is not assigned but this disk is showing

Not clear if you did that AFTER the drive wasnt visible after
the clean install of XP again or did that before you plugged
the external drive in after that clean install of XP.

I'd see if Easy Recovery Pro can fix the mess now. It isnt free.
