Need a good USB2 Card, please advise

I have heard that You should try and match the chipset on your MB to the controller on the card..IOW same manufacturers

The picture shows something that looks exactly like my Maxtor card,
which would be good since my Maxtor uses the NEC brand USB 2.0 chip
(large, square, 160 pins), considered by www.usbman.com to be the
best, least troublesome available. But companies sometimes change
card designs without saying anything or even changing the box (as IO
Gear did, which is too bad since their USB 2.0 cards are often free
after $10-15 rebate), so you may want to first ask about the chip.
Some other rands of USB 2.0 cards with the NEC chip are Adaptec,
Belkin, and DLink.

www.usbman.com does not like USB 2.0 cards based on chips by ALi
(small, square, 64 pins), VIA (rectangular, about 128 pins), or SiS.
I haven't tried any SiS USB 2.0 cards, but the ALi chip requires
Windows 98SE or later to work in USB 2.0 mode (only USB 1.1 operation
otherwise), and the VIA USB 2.0 chip caused read aborts with my flash
card reader, even though the reader is only USB 1.1. Wierder, this
USB chip was incompatible with an old VIA-based mobo made by FIC, a
sister company of VIA, but not with equally old mobos based on SiS or
Intel chipsets. Maybe those companies understood VIA's chips better
than VIA did.
