Default Replacing Existing Printer?

I currently have the HP Laserjet 1320 printer and it is old and giving me many
problems. I have ordered a replacement printer,the, - HP Laserjet Pro 400
PrinterM401dne and it is on the way to me. Question - when I get ready to
install the new printer, I will disconnect the existing printer, but was
wondering if I should delete the existing printer from the Control
Panel/Printers prior to installing the drivers for and connecting the new
printer. I am running Win7, 64bit.

Just trying to understand everything prior to starting.

Thanks

If you're going to get rid of the old printer physically, deleting it
and its drivers electronically makes sense to me.

Thanks for the reply. If I delete the printer from the Control Panel/Printers,
does that also delete the drivers for it -or- do I have to go elsewhere to
delete the drivers for it?

Sure. No need to keep the old printer installed if it is being replaced.

The HP Laserjet Pro 400, M401dne, is a fine printer. I just installed one
on a LAN with an additional Tray.

I suggest deleting the printer. Then use an uninstaller to see what HP
stuff is left. If there are drivers, uninstall them.

What Uninstaller?

There are two types of Printer Drivers.

Those that get installed via a Setup and those that get installed via an INF files.

Usually the drivers that are installed via a formal installation process may be removed
through the "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" Control Panel applet.
However if you install a printer manually and point to ther printer's INF file then there
is no formal uninstallation process.

Therefore it can depend on the printer and how the printer was installed.

Generally speaking, if you have Printer X installed and you remove it from the active list
in "Printers" or "Printers and Devices" it does not remove the drivers and/or associated
software. Only if you ran a formal installation process can they be removed via the
"Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" Control Panel applet.
