Possible to play Game on one monitor and surf net on 2nd monitor?

I have a dual monitor and I'd like to play full screen on 1 monitor,
but still be able to check email and surf on the second monitor...

The only problem is, that when the game launches, the mouse cursor
disappears and I can't control anything in the second monitor. If I
hit the windows key, the game aborts, and I'm able to see the mouse.

Is there a way or application that will work in this situation?

(I have a nvidia geforce 8800 gts)

I think you have to set up your screens to work independently, ie, 2
screens vs. the extended desktop.
