Scanning Full Strips of Negs With Umax Astra
I know this going to sound like a strange question so I will try to
detail exactly what I am trying to do as well as the equipment I have. I would like to be able to scan strips on negs sprocket holes and all into positives on a Umax Astra 3400(same as the 3450 without the transparency adapter) My hope is that I will be able to download one of the Umax drivers and force this to work. The reason is that I want to be able to stitch the whole negs again with sprocket holes into a pattern to correspond with the images on the film. I know longer have access to a color darkroom so I can't create the contact sheet I need mechanically plus I don't want to slice all my negs apart. Any Suggestions will be helpful Ray Creveling |

They took a fluorescent flash light, placed the flashlight on the negative and scanned the normal (reflective) way. http://www.afn.org/~afn11300/slides.html And http://www.abstractconcreteworks.com...uoroflash.html -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |

Would disabling the scanners internal lamp improve the results? It seems to me that it would, as you would eliminate the unneeded, undesirable reflective element. Also, since the scanner and the flashlight use different frequencies for exciting the fluorescent lamps, they might interfere in weird ways. All this assumes that the internal lamp can be disabled without the scanner's diagnostics shutting the scanner down due to a "fault." I don't know. To disable the scanners lamp would require some hardware hacking. I am only giving links to these sites because it seems that these people had success. If you really want to know whether it works or not, try the ideas and see if they work. I have seen those fluorescent flash lights in the sports section of Wal-Mart. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |
