Problem with hard drive and Windows 2000 install...
New build last night, booting from windows 2000 CD, OS files would copy to
the hard drive, but then on reboot the computer would not boot from the the hard drive. It turned out I had set the jumpers on the drive to "Master". The "Master" setting for the drive was only supposed to be used if there was also a slave attached to the same cable. There was ANOTHER jumper setting for the case where it was alone on the cable. After I fixed that, everything went perfectly. Computers are so frustrating sometimes. It didn't help that the drive label had the master and slave jumper diagrams together on 1 side of the label, and the "single drive" setting in a separate place on the other side. Whoever designed the label should be shot. It's an old 20 GB Western Digital... live and learn. |
