maxtor SATA 400GB slow access?
Just bought a maxtor 6H400F0 400GB SATA drive from Frys for $110.
The spec says 8.5ms access but HD tach says access time is 19.1 ms. Admittedly, the drive is filled up 50% already before I remember to run the benchmark. Could this affect the test result? An older IDE drive is tested to have 15 ms. |

Just bought a maxtor 6H400F0 400GB SATA drive from Frys for $110. The spec says 8.5ms access It does? Probably not. That's SCSI territory. 8.5ms is avg. seektime. Combined with 4.17ms latency, that gives 12.7 avg. access time. but HD tach says access time is 19.1 ms. Yes, that does appear slow. Check power connections. Admittedly, the drive is filled up 50% already before I remember to run the benchmark. Could this affect the test result? Nope. An older IDE drive is tested to have 15 ms. Same rpm? (rethorical) |
