Default Noise dampening foam anyone?

Has anyone here ever used noise dampening foam inside your case? Did it make
a noticeable difference in the noise of the system? Did it have an impact on
heat?

Thanks!
Ken

No, never tried it as such - not in the physical sense of the word.
But low-density materials are great for reducing echo - but for sound
blockage, you need sump'n denser.
And as general rule of thumb - if it's a good acoustic insulator, it's a
good thermal insulator too (close in the frequency spectrum).
There's quite a few products out there.
Fans are usually the greatest acoustic offender.
I use 12dB, 80mm, 19.4CFM Papst 8412's in the PSU, Exhaust, AGP and two on
the CPU.
To maximise available cooling, you might want to -

Remove your PSU cover.
Remove fan guards (esp. PSU) - increases flow dramatically.
Stack a second fan on your CPU.
Remove PCI slot blanks - and open the back of your case.

The first two dropped my CPU temps by 10C - idle and loaded.

Consequently ...

Epox 8RDA3+ (225 FSB)
XP1700 DUT3C 0312xx (9.5 = 2134 MHz [XP2700+] stable)
2 x 256MB OCZ PC3700 EL (450 - 6-3-3 / 2.0 - dual mode)
Gigabyte Radeon 9700 Pro
Air
3DMk03 - 5,098
3DMk01 - 16,126

Temps : - 45/63C - fine for me.

I use Akasa. It runs hotter, and quieter. Not massively.

Thanks for the input and the links. I think I'm going to give it a try to
see if it helps.
