Should I buy a new Dell now or wait for Windows 7?

Hi,

I am using Windows XP Pro and have not even seen Windows Vista.

Right now I have the following:

XPS Dimension 700 (about 2 1/2 years old)
Intel Core 2 Duo
E6300 @ 1.86 GHz
2GB Ram

Right now I'm looking at the following:

XPS 630
Intel Core 2 Quad
Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz
4GB Ram

question Should I get this system now OR should I just bite the bullet
and get a system with Windows 7 at the end of the year?

Is there a huge difference in the horsepower of the 2 machines I listed?

Depends on what you're doing with them...surfing the net, emails, word
processing you're not likely to notice much difference.

Photoshop or gaming and you probably will.

BTW, I downloaded the Windows 7 beta the other day and it looks rather
promising. I have it on a test machine that had Vista on it and it's
definitely faster and has a much smaller footprint.

Only took about 20-25 minutes to install. Programs all seem to run fine.

Why are you upgrading? If you need a new machine now, buy a new machine
now. If not, wait. Windows 7 should be better than Vista, but dare I
say not as good as XP.

I'm running it on the machine on which I am typing and it appears to be
Vista under a new name.

Sorry if I sound cynical but this seems to be an age old question...
should I buy now or wait? I think someone already posted the answer
but just in case I'm wrong... I say if your machine does what you
want, then wait. If it doesn't, buy a new machine now.

Again I apologize for being blunt but nothing personal and I think if
you read all your replies, you will have a good idea what to do. You
might want to google on Windows 7 so you have a better idea what
others think of it.
