Default Need advice on New laptop purchase

My boss has asked me to purchase a laptop for him. It will have to have
Xp on it. Other than that a decent processor and fast hard drive, don't
really need allot of storage. Most work it will be doing is web based so
a good wireless card is also priority. A full size keyboard and 14/15"
screen.

Its been awhile since I bought my Inspiron 6000. So what's a good Dell
machine to buy this week?

For a full sized keyboard, I think you'll need to go to the 17" Vostro
models. XP Pro is an additional $99.

Get him an E6500 Latitude (15.4") with the default 3-year warranty. He's
the boss.

The Vostro 1500's at the Dell Outlet for $479 are a good deal
(2.0GHz, 120GB HD, 2GB Ram). 1500's are a little on the heavy side for
actually carrying around though.

The 2GHz 1510 for $469 also but it will have no modem.

Your right he's the boss and money is not an issue, he wants a good
solid machine. And since he will be flying between Ohio and California
quite a bit a large 17" machine is not practical.

Right. It's your azz on the line seeing that he's not stranded or having
problems with the machine.

The Latitude is a traveller. Upgrade the 3-year HW warranty to next
business day onsite. That way, in the event of a hardware failure, Dell
could (in theory) come to where he is at any given time.

I'd either get him a Latitude or a ThinkPad.

Good luck.

Hi!

what's a good Dell machine to buy this week?

As S.Lewis already suggested, the Latitude is a very good choice. I've
got a Latitude D800 that I purchased in March 2005 and it continues to
perform exceptionally well to this day.

I agree with Stew's advice. I have found both Latitudes and ThinkPads
to have great build quality.

I am not familiar with the current Latitudes -- I like a 14" screen
(standard aspect preferred).

My wife loves her Inspiron 1720. Recommend you look into one.
