Default Ultra Portables? Acer One?

OK, I know this is a Dell group, but I figure you guys would know about
this.

They had a 4-hour special sale at our local Meijers (like Walmart) store.
They were selling Acer One Ultra Portable for $345. It has a 8.9" screen, 1
gig memory, and 120 gig hard drive. It comes with a mouse and Windows XP.

Is anyone familiar with this machine?

Also, my understanding is it does not have an optical drive. Am I correct
that this means no CD/DVD drive? If so, how do you install programs that
normally come on a cd?

I did google it and I see that $345 appears to be the regular price. So, it
is tempting!

Interesting -- finally one of the new low cost ultraportables with
decent enough specs to run Windows.

One thing that is important to me is a full size keyboard which seems
to be missing on a lot of these types of computers.

There are about 150 user reviews for this product on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...nosim/arm06-20

So, plenty of good info out there regarding this PC.

After reading the Amazon user reviews, I would probably spend a little
more and go with the ASUS Eee PC 1000H. The Acer One has some
complaints about fan noise but that's not even mentioned on the ASUS.

There is a good video review on Amazon for the Acer One. These little
netbooks are powerful little machines.
