Help - Runaway CDR/w

Can anyone tell me why my newly installed AOPEN CD-RW CRW5224 runs for a
minute at full speed at start up and whenever the disk is changed?

I had a look under System, Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Properties
and am being told This device is working properly, and that No driver file
is required.

Seems to work ok otherwise but it's abit of a pain...
