What speakers would match soundcard

Ok, I have this Asus mobo, but can't get my 2.1 speakers to work right. It
says that if I have 2.1, I need to connect the front speakers into one jack,
and the sub into another. Only problem is that the speakers plug into the
sub, and are not self powered. So, I hook up the sub into the jack for the
front speakers. Now the speakers work, but the sub is being treated like a
front speaker, not a sub. So, I'm not getting the quality I need out of it.

My question is this: Either how can I hook up 2.1 speakers when the front
speakers are not self powered, or where can I get powered front speakers and
a sub with a jack for each? I am willing to buy non matching speakers if I
have to buy a stand alone sub, and a pair of powered front speakers
seprately. I don't want or have any reason to get 5.1

Sounds like you have stereo speakers witha sub, which to me isn't 2.1 (not
that there is a 2.1).

2.1 speakers would accept 3 channels, sounds like yours just have a 2
channel input, yeah? My guess is that it takes that stereo input and uses a
crossover to seperate the sound going to the sub and speakers.

You could open up your sub and pull the wire out between the crossover and
the sub and use that as the sub input (this will likely have impedence
problems and you'll have to match the impedance). This would also rely on
their being seperate amplifier circuits for the sub and speakers, and may
also get messy depending on whether the crossover is active or passive.
