Video overlay
Hi, I want to ask about important 2 things for overlay function:
1-Why are video overlay playbacks like DivX, MPEG2 are much more brighter than non-hardware overlays? For example, in BSPLAYER, overlay mixer mode 2 is enabled, if you have a preview of video in Windows Explorer, then if you open the video(double-click), the video is much more brighter and smoother than opening it directly. Why? And is it normal (i suppose) ? 2- Does Geforce 4 MX440 have support for overlay gamma setting adjustment? It's grayed out with Forceware 77.72. Please reply, thanks in advance. Best ragards... |

They aren't always, it depends on the values used by your video card driver- see the settings in (windows?) Display Properties. For example, in BSPLAYER, overlay mixer mode 2 is enabled, if you have a preview of video in Windows Explorer, then if you open the video(double-click), the video is much more brighter and smoother than opening it directly. Why? And is it normal (i suppose) ? You'd have to look into what your software is doing, which is a bit outside the scope of a hardware forum. Try changing it's settings if this is a problem, or use the Display Properties settings as mentioned above. 2- Does Geforce 4 MX440 have support for overlay gamma setting adjustment? It's grayed out with Forceware 77.72. Try a newer version of Forceware driver, and if it's too bright, just use the brightness control instead of gamma. |

Yeah, those GeForce MX cards are a little flaky on the driver side of
things, there should be a setting for Overlay Gamma somewhere, otherwise I's play with brightness/contrast in DIVX codec itself |

What are you calling a non-hardware overlay? Generally an overlay is the distinction between hardware, or not. For example, in BSPLAYER, overlay mixer mode 2 is enabled, if you have a preview of video in Windows Explorer, then if you open the video(double-click), the video is much more brighter and smoother than opening it directly. Why? And is it normal (i suppose) ? It would seem one of the two is using the overlay and the other isn't. So you'd look at the following items to fine-tune it however you want; Video driver settings Codec control panel (if it allows configuration) Each video player's settings. 2- Does Geforce 4 MX440 have support for overlay gamma setting adjustment? It's grayed out with Forceware 77.72. Why are you trying to adjust gamma for what you just described as brightness difference? I'd try installing a newer driver, or possibly even an older one as it might be a bug in that version? I'd tend to think newer being better than older, at least until the 9x.xx series which changes the interface completely which some may like and others may not. |
