Default AMD and gulp Simpletech

What the hell is this about http://biz.yahoo.com/pz/060913/105188.html
then? Simpletech is not a chip mfr and is at best a modest player in the
DIMM market... but they are defining a "standard" for DDR3 RDIMMs and AMD
has a "joint effort" with them. I don't get it.... anybody?
