Default Compatible processor for a Compaq 041Ch mobo

I am trying to upgrade an older Compaq Deskpro EP/SB Series machine. I
have a 500mhz P3 on there and I was wondering how much more I could
upgrade as far as a processor goes.

Slot 1 or Socket 370 processor?

If it's Slot 1, the max is 600MHz using a CPU designed to operate with 100MHz
front-side bus and at 2.0v. There are Slot 1 600MHz CPUs manufactured to
different specs. There is some possibility that a PowerLeap adapter with 1.4GHz
Celeron would work. Check with www.powerleap.com .

If it's Socket 370, the max is up in the 1GHz range with a Celeron... Ben Myers

Open the case. If the CPU is a chip laying flat on the motherboard, it's
Slot 370. If the CPU looks like a 1/2 inch thick card standing vertically
in a slot, it's Slot 1.
