Default Event ID 9

I have a Dell Inspiron 7500, (laptop), running Win2K SP3, using an
IBM-DJSA-210 HD. Lately, the drive has been making loud clicking
noises during what I believe to be disk access. I've also been
receiving the following entry in my event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: atapi
Event Category: None
Event ID: 9
Date: 7/24/2003

Description:
The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout
period.

I saw a thread in 4/03, but wasn't able to post a reply?

Any ideas on troubleshooting this? I went to support.microsoft.com,
but the document I found was specific to SCSI not IDE.

Thanks, Jon.
