Default Who Do I Disconnect Floppy Drive?

I have a five year old Compaq Presario 5000 Series desk top. The floppy
drive is screwed up. I want to turn the floppy completely off. I don't
want Windows or whatever to check the floppy drive when I start it up.

So, how do I go about this? Do I need to access the bios? How do I do
that? Then what? Do I need to disconnect the floppy cables from the
motherboard? I see two cables coming from the floppy drive - one seems to
go to the hard drive. The other is a ribbon cable that goes down to the
mother board. I have never removed a cable from the motherboard before
(except the fan cable.) So how do I safely do it if I need to?

I just got a Dell at Christmas time. I want to set up a network thing.
My Dell will be my main computer and my old Compaq will be the secondary
computer in the spare bedroom. But before I mess with that I want to take
care of the floppy drive.

Much Thanks!

You do not even need to remove cables.
When the machine boots, press F10. In the menu that will pop up-
change the entry: Floppydrive: 1.44 mb to Floppydrive: none
