In ,
Adam popped a head above the parapet and announced forth
in a bold strong and almost manly voice:
Hi Everyone

snip

(and anyway, would you keep a receipt for a
low-value item that worked OK at first?),

Yes I would for 12 months, including the packaging.

True of any retailer with any common sense. Only a complete ****wit of
a business would give a refund without proof of purchase.

Interesting opinion. Personally, I think only a complete ****wit of a
business would make a fuss about a low value item and not only lose a
customer FOR EVER but also generate some rather negative internet postings.
Even if I hadn't bought it there (and seriously, how many people would try
taking back something they bought somewhere else?) then surely it would
still be worth while changing it for the goodwill.

The problem is, when your company has as many negative internet
postings as DSG, it really becomes something of a none-issue. Any
consumer smart enough to research a vendor online before buying already
knows better than to buy from PC World for anything worth serious
money.

Some businesses like to get rid of some of their customers. I have
some tried and tested methods for ensuring that some of my PITA
patients don't want to see me again...well worth the loss of income.

Proof of purchase is not necessarily a receipt - it's not beyond them to
check to see if they have sold a KVM recently to your credit card
(assuming this wasn't a cash payment)...

Burden of proof is not on them, it's on you.

Yes, but Dixons Group don't stop there...they really have a complete
lack of respect for consumers' rights.

Not really...they just enforce the SOGA to the letter which some shops
don't to your benefit.

Do you think they give a flying **** about a punter who comes in once
in a blue flood and only spends £10-£50?

So the OP could go back into the store and they could very easily look
up all sales of product code xyz on a given date, they're just choosing
not to do so.

They don't have to. It is up to YOU to provide proof.
