Default DVD-R Data Storage

I have a Pioneer DVR-A06U, which I got to store data files, backup data etc.

I was told at Compusa that the CD-R format was a good media for that purpose.

I would like some advice as to which software would be a good choice to use
with the drive.... Nero? Roxio or other suggestions.

If I am asking in the wrong newsgroup, would you please point me in the right
direction

TIA

Don't plan on keeping them forever, and they will last longer if stored in a
dark place. Don't count on them lasting longer than 3 years either way.

Reliability will be determined by the CD recorder, and the CDs you burn to.
Software will have nothing to do with the reliability, but may affect
compatibility. I like Nero, but it's kind of expensive when all you get is
the capability to write to CD-ROMs.

When I complete a DVD-R (about 3 gigs of Data) and elect to finalize it (using
Roxio 6 drag & drop) the operation takes about 25 minutes (should take 1 to 4
minutes) and is not readable in the DVD drive on the computer. It is readable
in the Pioneer Drive.

Are others having this problem?

Thanks again.
