Overclocking XP1600+
Hey again - its me :P
Yep - my Athlon XP1600+ is giving me problems - it works fine upto 1501 Mhz (but only at 1.85v) on a 143Mhz FSB, but it will *not* go any higher. 145Mhz Causes it to fail post, and i need to turn the system off, wait 20 minutes, turn back on, and quickly change the FSB back to normal before attempting to boot again. The board in question is a Gigabyte GA-7VTXH w/KT266a Cheers |

I used to get 1750@140 from a Pal 1700 - so try raising the multiplier.

Erm - well its a Palomino core, and isnt it impossible to change the
multiplier? arent they locked? If it involves chopping the cpu around - i dont really want to chance it. No chopping, just a bit of sellotape, thermal grease and conductive paint
(apply with a razor blade). It's quick and easy (if you use thermal goop not glue to pit fill). "Kai Robinson" wrote in message ... "Hrm - the question now is a) how? and b) where do i get the stuff from,
without the aid of a credit card (cant have one for the next 3 years) in europe :P Kai" in article , QED, eh ? at wrote on 23/6/03 10:54 pm: No chopping, just a bit of sellotape, thermal grease and conductive paint (apply with a razor blade). It's quick and easy (if you use thermal goop not glue to pit fill). Some overclockers have used conductive paint from a rear window defroster repair kit. Also some craft and hobby shops carry metallic paint. The plastic (Scotch) tape and non-conductive thermal grease should be pretty easy to get locally. You could also try a needle using the small hole to hold a small amount of the conductive paint. A verrry small needle :-) I'm just too lazy to pull the motherboard for cpu surgery on my back up unit which will be replaced when the new mobo arrives Wednesday. Like I said 1500MHz is about tops on an unmodified XP1600 Palomino. The good news is if you mess up just clean everything off the cpu and try again ;-) Good luck, FRH |

But I didn't jack up the FSB (at least not too high), which jacks up the PCI and AGP buses. -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.html |

Oh i know that - the problem is, that on the 7VTXH, you cant do anything
with the AGP or PCI bus clocks or ratios.....cant even change the DDR clock either....
