Upgrading a CPU in an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Hi,
Last year I bought a ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with a AMD Athlon 64 3200 in it. I have seen that new 939 CPU's such as dual core X2 and FX chips are now much cheaper. Is it difficult to upgrade an AMD CPU in this motherboard? Are there any guides that can show me how to not electrocute myself? Thanks, Jon |

AMD has videos you can download http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/cont...ve-HighRes.wmv We can also help you if you get one from us. --- Kevin Chalker, Owner (KC COMPUTERS) Internet dealer since 1991!!! It's not too difficult, you just need to figure out how to move the handle. Here is what you need to do: 1. Buy the new processor. 2. Read the manual, it has many pictures showing you have to work the handle. 3. If your current processor has a different design then you will need to read it's manual. 4. If you don't have the manual then search the internet for the manual how to remove your processor without damaging it 5. Turn off the power 6. Remove the cooling box plus cpu fan all at once. You do not need a screw driver everything should just come off in one piece by moving handles. 7. Then move the cpu handle to unlock the chip. 8. Carefully remove the chip. I have never done this myself to be honest... but I did try it when I installed it... It should easily come off... but who knows after all those months/years of work it might have shrinked and expanded of heat and might got stuck a little ? 10. Install the new cpu, give it a test run how to install it. 11. Then go for the real thing. Buy some thermal paste interface material. Apply the thermal paste interface material to the cpu. For example artic silver 5 is popular and cools down the cpu a little bit more... this effect will be noticable a few weeks later when the material has hardened a bit or something like that. It's good to have your own thermal paste interface material like paste in case you mess up the original stuff. Ofcourse you could first try out the manufacturer's material and later apply your own for better cooling and to be sure. Don't overdue but definetly make sure to spread it around the chip... into the corners as well. 12. Install the smeared in chip/cpu and push down the cpu leverage. 13. Mount the cooling box and fan etc, and lock it down as well. 14. Very important: connect the cpu fan connector to the motherboard were it says cpu fan header/connecter, read your motherboards manual 15. Now your all set ! Also make sure the bios supports the x2 processor, I think all bioses support the X2 processor not sure though Mine did though =D Bye, Skybuck. |

Watch out for sticky cpu coolers. sometimes the paste and cpu keep toghter when you want to remove it. if that happens you pull the whole cpu from it's socket and bend some pins. if the paste is warm it get better loose from the cpu. |
