Default Question on JVC VCR/DVD reader/burner

This subject is kinda *on topic* for this NG, and kinda *off topic*.

We recently got a JVC DR-MV1S that is so versicle the Instruction Manual
is 98!! pages--all English. It has so many modes of operation it's got
us old folks dizzy. (More on the modes if anyone asks.) The bloody thing
is as complex as a computer! ;-)

We got it so we could transfer some 30/60 minute old camcorder VHS tapes
to DVD. (The DVD section only records in DVD-R* format.) BUT, we don't
now how to cut (edit) out X-seconds of the video from the final DVD
recording.

Anyone have any experience with this unit? Can anyone tell me where to
go (keep it clean :-) ) to learn more? I can't find a Usenet or I'Net
forum on the unit.

Thanks...

Editing on a set-top box is only possible by using the pause button during
the recording. Just start the recording and pause the DVD when the section
you don't want come up.

Once on DVD, you can easily edit on your computer, assuming you have a DVD
burner in the computer. This will require some sort of authoring program,
which there are dozens of.

I record only on DVD-RW on my set-top box, then transfer the recordings to
my PC for editing and re-authoring.

Thanks for the replies to this (now) simple problem. The solution turns
out to be:

1) Turn the Instruction Manual over and read the back cover!!! (RTFBC)
Call the 1-800 number for help!!!

2) It turns out we were doing a dumb thing; should have pressed PAUSE
rather than STOP before attempting to start the session by pressing
DUBBING. Also turns out the DUBBING lite doesn't turn on unless you are
in the ??? mode. (Didn't take time to write that info down.) Also turns
out you can then press N*(Pause/Play) to edit out unwanted segments of
the VHS source while in the recording session. (All this is nicely
outlined on page 65, except for the DUBBING lite action! :-( )

The gal (east Indian?) help person was brief and to the point. I said,
"I've got everything set up so can we start from that point?" She
politely said, "Sir, if you want my help you'll follow my instructions.
We will start from the beginning before proceeding with this help
session." (Wow, yes ma'am!) At the end of the phone call I said, "Thank
you very much, it works beautifully." She responded, "click" :-D

But the upshot of this is that now we are EX-SPERTS in one more feature
of this JVC "computer" with only 1,000 left to go. ;-)

Thanks, again, guys.
